UTA 99 SOUTH ALABAMA 87
It was a change of pace at the College Park Center this night, as the team normally known for the three-point shootout went with the slam dunk contest.
The UTA Mavericks dominated the first half with alley-oops and breakaways, forcing turnovers and attacking the rim mercilessly to build a 23-point lead and eventually hold on 99-87 against South Alabama.

The Jaguars did shoot 52 percent from the floor in the first half, but that was when they had the chance to shoot. The Mavs forced nine turnovers in the first 20 minutes for 12 fast break points. That, along with the guards able to easily lob the ball to people like Anthony Walker, allowed UTA to shoot 68 percent in the first half while also turning 6 of 16 offensive rebounds for 8 of 15 second chance points.

UTA definitely has the opportunity go get off to a great start to the Sun Belt season, with five of the Mavs’ first seven conference games at home. They do have a quick turnaround, though, as they have to face Troy on the road this Monday.
