TCU 67 WEST VIRGINIA 78
It may be too soon to say it’s about to come crashing down for TCU basketball. But the fact is, one winning streak is over and one big losing streak remains intact.
The Horned Frogs, who went 13-0 in non-conference, still have not won a Big 12 game since the finale of 2013 after being upended this afternoon by No. 17 West Virginia at the Wilkerson Greines Center.
It was a very slow-paced game due to the referees being very whistle-happy, calling 61 fouls total on the afternoon. But that actually worked in the Frogs’ favor, as they hit more free throws than the Mountaineers, 25-19.
Ultimately what got the Frogs were mistakes they could have corrected with more intelligent play – turnovers and rebounding. TCU gave it up 18 times while allowing 21 offensive rebounds for 23 second-chance points.
It is only one game, to be sure. But considering West Virginia is only one of six teams in the Big 12, it is going to still be a difficult fight for Trent Johnson’s squad to establish themselves in this conference.
The only non-ranked teams the Frogs will face in the near future will both be on the road – at Kansas State on Wednesday and at Texas Tech on Jan. 17. TCU won’t face an opponent currently unranked at home until Oklahoma State comes to Fort Worth on Valentines Day.
