SMU LOSES AGAIN, BUT HAS A COACH BEEN FOUND?
If there was one silver lining to having to endure another Mustangs blowout loss, it may be that the school’s search for a new full-time head coach has come to an end.
The night before the Mustangs’ 35-9 loss to Houston, with SMU finishing winless with a total of three touchdowns scored at Ford Stadium on the season, numerous media outlets began reporting that SMU will name Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris as head coach.
This news was first reported by the Clemson page of the recruiting site 247sports.com.
SMU has yet to confirm this, with athletics director Rick Hart telling USA TODAY that “there is no deal yet,” but some are speculating that an announcement will not be made until the first week of December. It has also been reported by Chip Brown that Morris has had the job for two weeks but was waiting to see if Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney would get the Florida coaching job.
Morris himself responded via text to CBS Sports with ““Unreal, everyone thinks they know. Sorry completely focused on SC (South Carolina, Clemson’s next opponent).”
