MAVS CAN’T HANG ON WHILE LEGENDS BUCKLE DOWN
Despite holding the Rockets to just 25 percent shooting in the fourth quarter, the Mavericks saw a six point lead slip away in the last three minutes to fall 95-92 to a Dwight Howard-less Rockets team at the Toyota Center.
Everything just seemed to fall apart for dallas in the last two minutes. Monta Ellis and Chandler Parsons both missed free throws. Tyson Chandler had to come out of the game for one defensive possession with a cramp, and the baseline was left wide open for Jason Terry to get a driving layup for Houston. Finally, with just over 20 seconds left, James Harden was able to draw a foul on Parsons and hit the three-point play to put the Rockets back up in front.
The Mavs had chances in the final seconds down three, but neither Dirk Nowitzki, Ellis or Parsons could hit a three pointer.
It was a better night up the Tollway, as the Legends shook off last night’s defeat to get their first win of the season at the Dr Pepper Arena, 103-90 over the Austin Spurs.
Eric Griffin led Texas with 26 points, while the Legends defensively held the Spurs to 19 points in each of the last two periods. Every Austin player outside of their starting frontcourt was held to single digits.
