It may be difficult to ask what SMU fans find more difficult to watch – the last-second horror that befell the Mustangs last time or the blowouts that have been all too common.
Another one in the latter category occurred this Saturday, as Central Florida dismantled the Mustangs 53-7 in Orlando, jumping to a 27-0 lead in the first quarter and never looking back.
As usual, the lone bright spot for SMU came from Matt Davis, who could be an impressive quarterback if whichever new coach to come in can recruit pieces around him. The sophomore scored the Mustangs’ only touchdown of the day, running for all 30 yards on that drive after a 64-yard kickoff return from Deion Sanders Jr.
But that was the lone bright spot for the Ponies, and it was followed by a 26-0 run by Central Florida to end the game.
Davis finished with only 10 other rushing yards outside of what he got on that one scoring drive – and he still led the Mustangs in rushing for the game. And he only threw for four yards more than he passed.
