STARS 3 ARIZONA 1
If only the Dallas Stars could play the Arizona Coyotes all the time, they might not have this issue of losing streaks.
A three-goal third period allowed Dallas to finally overcome its seven game losing streak at the American Airlines Center in taking down the Coyotes.
The most impressive factor might not have been the Stars finally showing some mettle in the period that has hurt them most of the time this season, but the fact that Kari Lehtonen did not allow a full-strength goal for the entire game.
Arizona did score first when Lauri Korpikosi managed a power play goal with just over 5 1/2 minutes to go in the game. But the Stars’ keeper turned away the remaining 26 shots, also marking a rare game where he and the defense combined to keep the opposition in check together.
That gave the Stars the chance they needed, and they finally jumped at it in the first minute of the third. John Klingberg found the net for the first time 19 seconds into the period to tie the game, and Cody Eakin put them in front just more than 20 seconds later.
This time, Dallas did not break down hiding onto a slim lead late. In fact, they added to it when Jason Spezza scored with less than five minutes to go.
