MAVERICKS 107 CHARLOTTE 80
At this point, there seem to be only two big questions regarding Dirk Nowitzki’s legacy with the Mavericks: “Can he lead the Mavs to another title?” and “When does the statue get put up outside the American Airlines Center?”
One more milestone was added to that legacy Monday night, as Nowitzki became only the fourth player to score 27,000 points with one team as the Mavs cruised past the Hornets in Charlotte.
A 67-43 first half allowed Dallas to go on cruise control for the remainder of the game, though they did not let up on defense, holding the Hornets to just 37 points in the second half.
Nowitzki had a rather pedestrian 13 points around the milestone shot that put him in a class with Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Karl Malone, but part of that was Rick Carlisle being able to hold him to just 25 minutes. Monta Ellis led the way with 18 as all five starters scored in double figures, including 17 from Chandler Parsons.
