SMU 28 @ TULSA
For some reason, the SMU Mustangs have been playing better away from home.
That still hasn’t resulted in a win. But what happened in Tulsa early Saturday still gave more hope than what was seen the past two games at Ford Stadium.
Down 31-13 at one point, the Mustangs managed to get within a touchdown late before ultimately losing 38-28 to the Golden Hurricane.
SMU actually led 6-0 and 13–7 in the first quarter – and then the defense struggled once again, allowing 28 unanswered points.
In the fourth, Matt Davis finally got things going again in his first game starting this year at quarterback. Drives of 61 and 70 yards that ended in two rushing touchdowns by Davis got SMU to within 31-28.
But the Hurricane responded in the end by going 53 yards in six plays and hitting a field goal with just over a minute to go to put the game away.
With Davis leading the Mustangs to 404 total yards, maybe they have found their solution at quarterback.
Then again, they’ve heard that before this season.38
