TCU 82 TEXAS TECH 27 – TECH BLITZED BY A NEW ERA OF FROG FOOTBALL
Once upon a time, seeing outrageous numbers on the scoreboard was not uncommon when Texas Tech was playing. It just was uncommon to see it happening to them – and definitely not by TCU.
Saturday’s game at Amon Carter Stadium was just the latest case of how things have changed in Fort Worth since Gary Patterson brought in Sonny Cumbie and Dough Meacham to revamp the offense, as the Horned Frogs ran their way all over the Red Raiders to an 82-27 destruction.
Trevone Boykin threw for 433 yards while Aaron Green ran for 105. Five TCU receivers caught a touchdown, with Deante Gray and Josh Doctson catching two each.
Tech did score first, led 10-7 and only trailed 24-17 after the first quarter. The score was 31-20 with 8 1/2 minutes to go in the second – and then the Frogs got serious, scoring 30 unanswered points, followed by an additional 21 after a Tech touchdown made the score 61-27 with just over three minutes to go in the third.
The lone black mark of the game for TCU was receiver Doctson having to leave the game and being seen in crutches later.
