RIDERS 7 MIDLAND 3 – TEXAS LEAGUE SOUTH DIVISION SERIES GAME 1
The Frisco RoughRiders were able to put away game one of their first-round playoff series pretty early; the trick now is remembering the series has not yet been put away.
With Alex Gonzalez being staked to a 6-0 lead after just one inning, the RoughRiders were able to coast to an opening game win over the RockHounds at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.
Jason Wood went with a power-packed lineup, and it paid off immediately. The game was was almost not in doubt after Frisco’s first batter, as Odubel Herrera led off the bottom of the first with a home run. That was the first of five hits the Riders had in the first inning, including a two-run double from Hanser Alberto that brought home the last of the six runs they scored that inning. An error from Hiroyuki Nakajima at first base and a wild pitch from Nate Long also contributed to the big inning.
Midland did get two in the second inning but would not score off of Gonzalez for the rest of the game, as he struck out seven in six innings while allowing only three hits after the second.
Jared Eickhoff will get the ball in Game Two Thursday night against Chris Jensen as the Riders look to take the first two games on their home field.
