It came absolutely down to the last out, the last pitch. But the TCU Horned Frogs are headed to the College World Series for the second time in the program’s history.
Down 5-4 to Pepperdine in the ninth inning of a game where, they were technically the road team due to the coin toss rules of the NCAA, the Frogs rallied to take a 6-5 lead, scoring the go-ahead run on a squeeze bunt from Kyle Bacak.
Pepperdine did try to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, as two batters walked to put the tying run on third and the possible winning run at first. But Riley Ferrell struck out Bryan Langlois on three pitches to end it.
It was only the third time that TCU came back to win after trailing after eight innings.
The Frogs join Texas and Texas Tech among Big 12 teams in the eight team field in Omaha. TCU will face the Red Raiders in their first game at 2 pm Sunday.
