After weeks of what looked like a sure thing, the SMU Mustangs did not get a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
The selection committee apparently decided that three straight losses to end the season was enough to not include the Mustangs in the field. UConn, which SMU beat twice but advanced to the American Tournament final, did get in.
The Mustangs will instead host UC-Irvine in the first round of the NIT Wednesday at 8 pm.
